Imagination in Organization

Using Your Imagination Towards Organizationalt

A quick and effective exercise to bring your organization skills to life
By Liz Canavan, Alchemy of Order

Everyone has clutter – the office that is a constant “disaster”, the room that is off-limits to visitors, the garage that is a reserved for stuff instead of cars. Some of us have more than others, but we all have it and we manage it differently.  One thing that is common is the shame we feel around our clutter; shame around the junk that we have accumulated and haven’t dealt with.

When clients tell me about their clutter, I ask three questions:
What isn’t working?
What is working?
 Then the magic-wand question…
“If I could wave a magic wand and transform the room into your dream office/guest room/garage, what would it look like?”
This is a great question because we all like talking about what we DO want and, we like to imagine what’s possible.
Many of us are frustrated and depressed by our chaos and clutter. When tackling your next organizational challenge, try asking yourself the magic-wand question. It’s a fun way to open your mind, heart and dreams to discover what you really do want.  Even if it all can’t become true in one organizing session, this exercise will get you thinking about the big picture and working towards your highest intention for your space.
