Saving Time: A Busy Woman’s Perspective
By Liz Canavan
When I took my first Time Management Class, the question to the audience was “if you were given an extra hour in your day, how would you use it?” I thought about the “right” answers: yoga, read for pleasure, nap, read about business… and then I thought how I would really use it: I would DO more (emails, calls, errands, working out …) And I realized I AM given an extra hour in my day, I just spend it the “wrong” way.
The only reason we feel like we don’t have enough time is because we are not delighted with how we’re spending our time. It might be too simplistic, but I think if we start being happy with how we’re spending our time, we’ll feel like we have enough of it.
How to save time in your life:
- What do you want to do more of in your life? (flying kites, watching the clouds, laughing, having sex, dancing, receiving massages, hiking, riding bikes, watching sunsets, napping, reading for pleasure, listening to music, ice skating, skiing…
- What do you want to do less of in your life? (listening to friends in emotional crisis, feeling tired, being angry, driving…)
- Post these lists so you can see them.
- Respond to calls, invitations, opportunities to be in sync with this list.
- Plan (in your calendar!) activities from #1 into your schedule. Bonus: do with or without friends/family members.
Dr. Christian Northrup, a Sister Goddess and Oprah contributor says we should strive for four things in our lives:
- Think heartwarming, sexy, uplifting, kind, loving and positive thoughts about yourself and others EVERY DAY
- Strive for commitment, trust and vulnerability with your partner
- Do things that keep you in touch with your life force…cultivate your inner pleasure and exchange it for stress, and decide that this half of your life is really the best
- Get out of your head and into your body….regularly - www.drnorthrup.com
There is plenty of time to have good thoughts, a strong relationship, build your life force and get into your body! Keep it simple, keep all of it simple, and make sure you’re enjoying this ride.
